SKC Danilo Kiš would like to invite you to workshops within the project #MINORITIESONLINE:
Cultural production of the vulnerable groups- cultural production in the native language: challenges, opportunities, difficulties, good practices.
I Creative writing workshops in the native or another language, part one: How to write and why write? What is writing? How to start writing? (two workshops)
II Creative writing workshops in the native or another language, part two: Comprehending and mastering the literary-critical apparatus. Introduction to contemplation on migration literary themes. (two workshops)
III Creative writing workshops in the native or another language, part three: Who writes? Identity and writing. Why write in the native language? How to write in the native language in a different language environment? (two workshops)
IV Creative writing workshops in the native or another language, part four: Writing in the Slovene language. Encounters with writers and discussion on writing strategies and strategies of presence in the Slovene literary environment. (two workshops)
V Creative writing workshops in the native or another language, part five: How to communicate with the media if you write in another language? Difficulties, networking, the establishment of the migrant literary scene, publication and translation of minority and migrant authors‘ literature. (two workshops)
Workshops‘ structure: lecture + debate + individual guidance
Number of workshops: 10
Training duration: 100 hours
Workshops‘ languages: Slovene, Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Bosnian and all other languages from the region of the former Yugoslavia, with the help of translation.
The workshops will be run by Lidija Dimkovska, a poet, writer, essayist and literary translator, the recipient of the EU Prize for Literature, the Hubert Burda Prize and many other awards and prizes.
The established authors writing in their native languages, but living and working in Slovenia, who will be invited to the workshops as guest speakers, will also present their work and experiences.
The workshops‘ objective is to support and train the participants from the former Yugoslavia ethnic communities for cultural production through empowerment for assessment of their own culture and language as equal to other cultures, as well as for the inclusion of their own culture into an equal dialogue and constant interaction both with other cultures and the dominant culture.
Instead of the typical ex cathedra lectures and training, workshops provide constant interaction between the trainer and the training participants. The workshops are conceived as debating circles, where the participants could state their own views, difficulties, needs, opinions and experiences and compare them with the experiences of others within the same or different vulnerable group, as well as with theoretical and research viewpoints.
Individual guidance is aimed at those participants who would like to get additional references or counselling on certain topics which were presented in lectures or help with shaping the works created in workshops.
The instructors/mentors will be available for individual guidance: in person right after the lecture or online by e-mail, Skype or chat.
The most successful works (poetry, prose, plays, essays) created in workshops will be published in an online journal and presented at a literary soiree. The most successful participants will get participation certificates at the end of the project.
Members of ethnic groups from the former Yugoslavia or their descendants who:
– write or want to write in the native, Slovene or third language,
– still haven’t published their works,
– are over eighteen
can apply for the workshops.

Applications should be submitted until 25th November 2018.
The workshops are supposed to start on 8th December 2018. The selected participants will have the opportunity of choosing the workshop dates through an online poll.
The workshops are free of charge.
