The book Membrane, Membrane <\/em>is comprised of eight short stories whose topics range from contemporary art and sexual minorities to emigration and different forms of violence in everyday life. It has had an exceptional critical reception and has been included on several best book lists in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ivan Anti\u0107<\/strong> (Jagodina, Serbia, 1981) is the author of two collections of short stories, Tonus<\/em> (2009) and Membrane, membrane<\/em> (2016). Literary critics consider Anti\u0107 to be one of the most important prose writers of the younger generation in the contemporary Serbian literature. His stories have been translated into several languages (English, German, Polish, Albanian, Slovenian, Macedonian and Romanian) and included in Serbian and international anthologies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Membrane, membrane<\/span><\/em> is <\/span>Anti\u0107<\/span>\u2019s second book. It is comprised of eight short stories and isn\u2019t supposed to be read at one fell swoop.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It was included in the daily newspaper <\/span><\/span>Politika<\/i><\/span><\/span>\u2019s Overview <\/span><\/span>The Best Books of 2016\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span>as one of the ten outstanding titles from the entire annual prose work production: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn his new book of stories, <\/span><\/span>Ivan Anti\u0107<\/span> creates a unique language texture. Stories of different length and subject matter have a common denominator which is recognizable in the voice of the narrator and his specific position in relation to the world he describes. Methods employed by <\/span><\/span>Anti\u0107<\/span> in his first collection of short stories <\/span><\/span>Tonus<\/i><\/span><\/em> have been developed further in his second book<\/span><\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/strong>Membranes<\/i><\/span><\/em> <\/i>brings a carefully formulated sentence, enriched with <\/span><\/span><\/em>intertextual<\/span><\/span><\/em> connections and dispersive meanings. The reader faces a challenging task of slowing his or her reading down and getting involved in a distinctive methodology of observation used by the narrators. This methodology <\/span><\/span><\/em>implies<\/span><\/span><\/em> a minute scrutiny of people, <\/span><\/span><\/em>occurrences<\/span><\/span><\/em>, and relationships, analysis and consideration of the obtained <\/span><\/span><\/em>\u02bbresults\u02bc.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Membrane<\/i><\/span><\/em> has also been included on the<\/span><\/span> list<\/span><\/span> of most important books of the year 2016 called<\/span><\/span> The Indiscreet Heroes<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/em>, <\/span><\/span><\/em>signed by the literary critic <\/span><\/span>Marjan \u010cakarevi\u0107<\/span><\/strong>, as well as on the list of most interesting titles of <\/span><\/span>domestic <\/span><\/span>and translated literature in 2016 on the TV show<\/span><\/span> Babylon<\/i><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span>on<\/span><\/span> <\/i>Serbian Broadcasting Corporation<\/span>, edited and hosted by the literary critic <\/span><\/span>Jasmina Vrbavac<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nekaterim je bilo \u017ee po objavi knjige Tonus jasno, da je Ivan Anti\u0107 eden od najpomembnej\u0161ih prozaistov nove generacije; ostalim pa verjetno ne bo nikoli.
